China Eastern Airlines has rolled out new luggage tracking tech at two Shanghai airports.

It introduced radio frequency identification devices (RFID) in bag tracking which is among the most advanced tracking systems available in aviation.

RFID-tech provides a more efficient service and importantly allows customers to track their bags in near real time via an app.

The system implemented at Shanghai Pudong and Shanghai Hongqiao is part of the Chinese governments comprehensive plan to create 'safe, green smart and human-orientated' airports nationwide.

A big part of this is leveraging tech to streamline passenger movements and improve operations.

It has earmarked 16 smart airports which include both Shanghai airports and the new Beijing Daxing mega-airport opening later this year.

According to an IATA report, RFID tech could reduce mishandled baggage by an extra 25% by 2025.
