AirAsia has added more international flights from its growing Penang hub.

The airline began new routes to Hanoi, Vietnam, and Phuket, Thailand with four flights a week and daily service respectively.

"AirAsia hopes to continue increasing tourist arrivals and, at the same time, linking Penang and the community in the northern region to more international destinations via its network," said AirAsia Malaysia Head of Commercial, Spencer Lee as he welcomed the inaugural flight from Hanoi.

The flights take to eight the number of international services launched by AirAsia at Penang.

Lee says the airline now has a market share of 68% for international traffic at the airport.

"This is a positive sign whereby flight activities are seen as being able to bolster the state's economy in the future," said Penang Tourism Development chairman Yeoh Soon Hin.

AirAsia also flies direct from Penang to Jakarta, Singapore, Medan, Ho Chi Minh, Surabaya and Bangkok.
