Mexican budget carrier VivaAerobus will start daily nonstop flights between New York JFK and Mexico City later this year.
The route kicks off on October 18.
The carrier expects to carry more than 130,000 during its first year of operation.
It becomes the four airline serving JFK from the Mexican capital after Delta, Aeromexico, and Volaris, while JetBlue launches flights just days after VivaAerobus.
VivaAerobus will fly 180-seat Airbus A320s on the route and CEO Juan Carlos Zuazua expects big success on the route despite the competition.
It will differentiate with the 'best value offer with lowest prices, direct flights and a service completely focused on the client,' Zuazua says.
"New York is one of the most influential cities in the world with an important Mexican passenger traffic flow. It is also a destination that until today, was aspirational for many," he said.
New York becomes the carrier's sixth US destination currently operating after Los Angeles, Chicago O'Hare, Las Vegas, Newark, and Houston.
